What I think he means by that is that I can be tenacious.
Like a dog on a bone. Where I lack in talent, I make up for in passion.
Let’s take tennis as an example. I may not have a lot of natural talent, but I love the game. I play my best. I play hard. OK, maybe I don’t have natural talent. I trip over my own two feet (hence two broken wrists last August!) but I try my best. I just think it is fun to get out and play and to be part of a team. I hadn’t really played for 10 years and then I had only been playing for about a year and joined a team before breaking both wrists in an awkward fall.
Most people would have said, time to hang it up. After all, you are getting older. I’m clearly the oldest woman in the group that I play with, the slowest, and the one making the most mistakes….OK, I guess a lot like Rudy!
But I really love the sport. I feel like it is “do or die. When you find something you love, do it! It makes me happy to move my body and to play.
The moral of this story? How to live younger longer?
1. Find your passion.
2. Find a team or a coach to support you.
3. Have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously.
