How to Eat While Avoiding The Grocery Store

Since grocery stores are becoming barren and we are quarantined at home, you may want to consider a food or meal delivery program. Here are three choices that I personally like and use:

First, every Monday (yay today!), I get a box of organic produce delivered from Imperfect Foods. Their mission is to eliminate food waste and build a better food system for everyone. I don’t care if my sweet potatoes are crooked and ugly, but apparently some shoppers do, so these imperfect potatoes either go to waste or come to us with a discount! They now offer more grocery items too, as well as conventional produce. Personally, I pass on the conventional items unless it’s on the clean fifteen list, with the exception of sweet corn (which I’ll only buy organic). Getting fresh organic vegetables should be a #1 priority for optimal nutrition no matter what diet you follow.

Cooking is not yet your thing? Consider Territory Foods for delivery of freshly made meals delivered right to your door. Their motto is, “Healthy eating made easy.” Everything is gluten-free and dairy-free and you can personalize your orders. Unfortunately they only deliver to certain parts of the country, but it’s worth checking out to see if your area made the cut.

Factor 75 is another delivery service I really like. The menu changes every week and they deliver nationally. You have the option to choose your own meals and they accommodate a variety of dietary needs. Use the code CARPEDIEM at checkout to get $40 off your first order.

For health food pantry items, my go to is Thrive Market. To me, this is like “Costco meets Health Food Store.” It’s so convenient, you can shop by item or dietary needs – like organic, fair trade certified, non-GMO project verified, etc.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Hopefully these simple solutions can lower the stress caused by watching the evening news and simplify your life.

Here’s to your health!

Carpe Diem,
Lisa
