Don’t Fear and Breathe

The government doesn’t always have the answers but YOU do! You are ultimately in charge of your health and your daily decisions matter. How you view your situation is crucial to your health and wellbeing. Fortunately, the body follows the mind and the mind follows the breath. So here is one simple solution to get you back into the driver’s seat.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. DITCH the fear! Turn off the TV and don’t watch the news while you are eating dinner or before going to bed! This is the fastest way for an upset stomach and insomnia.
Did you know that the gastrointestinal tract (the gut), has its own nervous system? It has as many neurotransmitters as the spinal cord! It communicates directly with the brain and the spinal cord. The gut nervous system is called the enteric nervous system. I often talk about the central nervous system and the parasympathetic versus the sympathetic nervous system as shown in this picture from my book.
What we THINK affects BOTH the central nervous system and the enteric nervous system in the gut. Do you ever feel the jitters in your stomach when you are nervous? Yep that’s the two talking together. Ever get loose stools when you are anxious? Bingo, another case in point.
So what you THINK matters! I get it. Fear is incapacitating. When my daughter was diagnosed with cancer I was physically ill. I tried to be the stoic, in control, all-knowing Mother, telling her everything was going to be ok. But deep inside, my gut was a mess! When we were at her cancer clinic, I was feeling really sick with flu-like symptoms and they offered me my first IV Vitamin C IV with methylated B vitamins. This is often called the Myer’s Cocktail.
Before the IV, I felt like a deflated balloon. Within the hour, I felt light and energetic, like my balloon was full of air. My daughter, who was getting daily IV’s grumpily said, “Why don’t I feel that way then?!”
In the case of cancer, IV vitamin C acts like a pro-oxidant and can actually kill cancer cells, which can cause a die off or Herxheimer’s (healing crisis) reaction. Anyone who has done a cleanse with a leaky gut knows what this feels like. Not good. If you try and upregulate detox too fast you can get flu like symptoms, headache, nausea or break out with acne or skin issues. This is because you detoxify toxins via your stool, sweat and urine. If your gastrointestinal border is compromised due to too much sugar, alcohol, gluten, caffeine, aspirin, Motrin, birth control pills, or stress (like in the SAD Standard American Diet & lifestyle), then the toxins you are eliminating can recirculate back into the blood stream. This is why I no longer offer a group cleanse program. Instead I offer KickStarts where we work on healing the gut first.
I was ahead of the curve with this pandemic. A few weeks ago, I had a very bad cold starting with a sore throat. Fortunately, I remembered that Dr. Mary Babcock in Great Falls offers IV Vitamin therapy. She adds ozone therapy to kill viruses, and glutathione, a major antioxidant to her cocktails to minimize the Herxheimer response. Glutathione also acts like a chelator. It will bind to heavy metals and mycotoxins (die off from mold) in the body and is an excellent supplement if you are suffering from heavy metal toxicity, mold lyme co-infections, or have neurological manifestations such as Parkinson’s or dementia.
If you are experiencing symptoms and fearful of Coronavirus, you may want to consider an IV cocktail especially if you are immune suppressed. This of course, is a more expensive treatment than my earlier post on taking oral vitamins. If you have an active case of Coronavirus then the Chinese American Medical Association has advocated the use of vitamin C.
Here’s a picture of the waiting room at Dr. Babcock’s office:
Please have no fear, there are many ways to heal. So, what’s the simple solution in addition to boosting your vitamin C? Breathe. Inhale to the count of five expanding the breath into your chest, ribcage and lower belly, hold it for the count of one and exhale to the count of five. Repeat 3-4 times.
